Imagine Dragons continue to build anticipation for their forthcoming Origins record with “Machine,” a powerful single about bravely living outside the box others might put you in, The song’s artwork also features a giant metallic head that’s been split in half, serving as a nod to Pink Floyd’s 1994 album Division Bell.
The drum-heavy song, which dropped Oct. 31, opens with frontman Dan Reynolds singing, “All my life been sittin’ at the table/ Watching them kids; they’re living in a fable/ Looks, luck, money never left a’wishin’/ But now it’s about time to raise up and petition.” He repeats a slightly varied version of the verse, this time louder and edgier, accompanied by an anxious electric guitar riff.
